Easter Events

The holidays are a pretty big deal in our house. Now that Lilly is into everyone of them, it always makes it more fun. We had a blast celebrating Easter this year. Of course, the teacher in me is used to decorating the classroom for each new season/event, so I have to do the same in the house as well. So we had to get out our eggs, bunnies, baskets.....and all the fun Easter stuff several weeks ago to get ready for the big day.
There were also several events that took place this year. We planned an Egg Hunt for all the kids in our Monday Play Group. Everyone brought 12 eggs with goodies inside and the moms "hid" them out on the lawn in front of the church. The kids loved finding all the eggs, then discovering there was something fun inside was even better! Lilly found a pink egg and held it up proudly saying look mom it is a big one. After the egg excitement, we all ate a picnic out on the lawn. It worked out perfectly that it was a gorgeous spring day with lots of sun.
Then we had the Easter Eggstravaganza at church on Sunday night. They set it up carnival style with several different games and activities for the kids. The Easter bunny made an appearance as well. Lilly loves the bunny. She wanted to sit in the bunnies lap for most of the night, I had to pull her out so the other kids could have a turn. Then she kept wanting to follow the bunny around the entire night and even did some hopping with Mr. Bunny.
We dyed eggs for the first time this year. I actually had to call my mom and ask how to boil eggs - I had never done this. Lilly has a blast watching the eggs change colors. She picked out the princess egg kit to decorate with. She loves anything with a Disney Princess on it!
And of course, there was Easter morning in the Patrick house. Lilly was surprised with a basket full of goodies and the bunny hid several eggs around the room filled with chocolate candy, jelly beans, and coins for her piggy bank. Every time she would find an egg, she would shake it and say "Did you hear that sound?" It was so cute. We even made a stop at the town square for pictures after church.
This year was really special because we started talking about the Easter story with Lilly and explaining that Jesus died for us and rose from the grave. Her two favorite parts were singing "Hosanna" and waving our arms for the palm branches and she would say "Jesus is alive" with all the excitement she had inside. Each year we want to add more to this tradition. Now all the decorations are tucked back away in the attic, but we have tons of pictures to remember it all by....
